Mayor, Bodyguard Dallied For Days On 'Business Trips': Report

Mayor Barry insists every trip she took with her security chief was for business, but travel reports show the pair often extended their stay

NASHVILLE, TN -- Since her admission Tuesday she'd had an affair with her now-former security chief, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has insisted the trips the pair took together were all business trips connected to her mayoral duties and that, irrespective of any relationship, she would have had security with her in any event.

While that may well be true, the fact is Barry was taking taxpayer-funded trips with the man she was having an affair with, Sgt. Rob Forrest. Now, a report from WSMV shows that the two spent time on trips beyond what was required for the conferences Barry attended.

In September 2017, travel records released to the media by the mayor's office show that Barry and Forrest traveled to Athens for the Athens Democracy Forum, but the trip extended three nights beyond the end of the conference with nothing on her official schedule.

The two also traveled to Kansas City in September 2017. The mayor toured a park and the city's transit system, had lunch with Kansas City Mayor Sly James and had a dinner on her Metro schedule. After those commitments, the mayor and Forrest spent two more nights in the Paris of the Prairies. Barry, coincidentally, grew up in the Kansas City area.

The mayor's office has not released travel records from 2015 or 2016.

Following a request from District Attorney General Glen Funk, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed it is investigating if there were any criminal violations vis a vis the affair.
