Medical Issue May Be Related To Death Of Man After Crash On 21st Avenue South

The man who died Sunday evening after his 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup truck collided with the rear of a Buick Regal on 21st Avenue South and Beechwood Avenue appeared to have suffered a medical event.

David Windrow, 46, was driving to Vanderbilt Medical Center after complaining of chest pain. He was traveling north on 21st Avenue South when he reportedly slumped over the steering wheel and struck the Buick at 6:45 p.m. The pickup truck then traveled off the roadway, struck a business sign on 21st Avenue South, and then a house in the 2000 block of Beechwood Avenue. Windrow, of Nashville, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died. Windrow’s wife and front seat passenger was not seriously injured. They were both wearing their seatbelts. The occupants of the Buick were not injured. There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
