Meharry Professor Shot In Robbery Near Campus
A Meharry Medical College professor is recovering after being shot near campus Thursday night in an apparent robbery bid.

NASHVILLE, TN — A Meharry Medical College professor was shot in an apparent robbery attempt near the medical school's campus Thursday evening.
Raju Ramasamy is at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in stable condition after he was shot while walking to his car at 24th Avenue North and Alameda Street at 5:30 p.m Thursday.

"We were saddened to learn of this terrible incident and our prayers are with Dr. Ramasamy and his family. We are relieved that he is recovering," Meharry spokeswoman Janet M. Caldwell said in a statement, according to The Tennessean.
"While this incident did not occur on our campus, safety is a top priority at Meharry and we continue to work diligently to ensure a safe environment," Caldwell added.

Metro Police detectives are working to identify the shooter or shooters.
