Metro Narcotics Investigator Accused Of Stealing $5K During Sting

A 16-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department is charged with felony theft following a Wednesday sting.

NASHVILLE, TN — A 16-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department pocketed $5,000 during a sting, according to investigators.

Sgt. James Landon Dunaway, a narcotics investigator, was arrested and charged with felony theft following a sting at motel authorized by Chief Steve Anderson.

Dunaway has been under investigation since September, according to a press release. Another officer said he saw Dunaway pocket cash during the execution of a search warrant September 13 and informed his supervisors, triggering the investigation.

Dunaway has been decommissioned. Anderson said there is no indication other detectives are involved.
