A brief cool-off comes to the Midstate this week, with highs back into the 40s and a warm-up for the weekend.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Some rain greets the start of the week followed by cooler air, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Nashville. After a few days with highs in the 40s, things are expected to warm up for the weekend.

Monday: A 60 percent chance of showers after 7 a.m., otherwise cloudy, high of 57. Winds of 5 to 15 mph could gust to 20 mph. A 60 percent chance of showers overnight and then cloudy after 1 a.m., low of 41. Winds of 5 to 15 mph gusting to 20 mph.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 7 a.m., then mostly sunny, high of 61. Winds of 5 to 15 mph could gust to 25 mph. Mostly cloudy after dark, low of 37. Winds of 10 to 15 mph gusting to 20 mph.

Wednesday: Partly sunny and cooler, high of 46. Winds of 10 to 15 mph gusting to 20 mph. Partly cloudy after sundown, low of 28.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, high of 46. Partly cloudy in the evening, low of 30.
