A North Nashville man shot and killed his son Sunday, claiming self-defense.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A 42-year-old North Nashville man told police he fatally shot his 20-year-old son in self-defense Sunday.

Around 9:30 Sunday morning, Metro Police responded to a shots-fired call on Malta Drive and found Mario Ford Jr. shot dead. His father, Mario Ford Sr., said he had told his son to move out, sparking an argument that escalated. Ford Sr. said an ongoing dispute led both men to arm themselves.

Ford Sr. said he shot his son after he pulled his pistol.

Ford Sr. is a convicted felon and, for now, is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm; however, under Tennessee law, self-defense is also a defense to that charge.
