Nashville Mayor’s Lawyer: There Was Only The One Affair

Metro Mayor Megan Barry's lawyer, a former US Attorney, warned media of legal action if rumors of other affairs are published.

NASHVILLE, TN — A former United States Attorney now representing Mayor Megan Barry sent a letter to Nashville media Friday saying the only affair the mayor had is the one she admitted to.

Jerry Martin, the former U.S. Attorney now in private practice, wrote “The Mayor has been fully forthcoming about her relationship with Sgt. Rob Forrest. There are no other inappropriate relationships, and any allegations or implications otherwise are patently false.”

The letter says “various media outlets are pursuing a story” that the mayor had multiple affairs and then warns of potential legal action.

“Mayor Barry’s primary concern is the impact such inaccurate reporting may have on innocent Metro employees and their families. By publishing or broadcasting allegations that Mayor Barry had additional relationships with other Metro employees, you will be acting with reckless disregard for the truth. This firm will take whatever legal steps are necessary to protect the Mayor and these innocent employees,” he wrote.

While no mainstream credible outlets reported the story or even on the existence of rumors, there were various hints and even outright claims more affair allegations would emerge Friday from a handful of social-media figures.
