On October 22, 2016, Pettus brought her unresponsive son to General Hospital, where he later died. The medical examiner said the boy died of asphyxia.
During the investigation, detectives said they discovered drug paraphernalia, baby bottles, clothes, medicine and a plastic bag in the bed where the boy was sleeping. Investigators say Pettus’ suspected neglect of her son played a role in his death.
