Nashville Mom ODs, Passes Out While Watching 1-Month-Old: Police
A 30-year-old Nashville woman was found passed out from an apparent overdose while her 1-month-old slept in the next room, police say.

NASHVILLE, TN — A 30-year-old mother allegedly overdosed and passed out while she was caring for her one-month-old baby, according to Metro Police.
The boyfriend of Sunnie Smithson, 30, returned to the couple's apartment Monday to find Smithson passed out on the floor with a syringe nearby. The boyfriend told investigators Smithson was supposed to be watching the couple's one-month-old while he was at work and that while he knew Smithson had been a drug-user in the past, he was unaware she was currently using.

Smithson was taken to hospital for treatment. The baby was asleep in the next room and is OK. Smithson was pulled over in The Nations Tuesday for running a stop sign. The officer who pulled her over allegedly found powder cocaine and Xanax.

Smithson is charged with attempted child endangerment and various drug crimes. She was not charged with drug possession for the incident at the apartment, because Nashville Fire personnel had disposed of the syringe in a sharps container by the time police arrived.
