Nashville SC To Host MLS' Atlanta United In Preseason Fixture

Nashville SC is taking on big competition in its first preseason game.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Nashville won't find out if its own Major League Soccer team is coming to town until December, but rest assured, an MLS team is coming to town to play in February.

Nashville SC, which begins play in the second-tier United Soccer League in 2018, will host MLS' Atlanta United in a preseason game at First Tennessee Park February 10. Tickets are only available by purchasing season tickets.

Atlanta United certainly provides a template for Nashville should it be selected, as is widely expected, as one of the MLS' expansion cities. The team qualified for the playoffs in its first season and averaged 50,000 fans per game and hosted the two most attended games in the league's history.

“We want Nashville SC’s first-ever friendly match to be special for the club and memorable for the fans. Hosting Atlanta United will certainly challenge our squad as we prepare for our inaugural season,” said Gary Smith, head coach of Nashville SC. “We are building a championship-caliber team and will put that to the test as we face a variety of top sides that will allow us to determine how our roster performs best in a variety of game situations.”

“We are looking forward to facing Nashville SC in our first preseason friendly of 2018,” said Atlanta United President Darren Eales. “Having a regional rival within driving distance of Atlanta will allow our fans the chance to see the team play early in the season. It’s an exciting opportunity for us to be the first opponent to face Nashville SC in First Tennessee Park.”
