Parakeet, Pills Procured Post-Pokey Pursuit: Police

A 71-year-old woman led Mt. Juliet Police on a low-speed, two-county chase, whereafter she was found with a parakeet and pills.

NASHVILLE, TN -- When Mt. Juliet Police attempted to stop a potentially impaired driver Saturday night, little did they know it would spark a two-county chase.

The chase itself was fairly standard stuff, its length notwithstanding. It stayed at low speeds before the driver finally pulled over around 7 p.m. at the James Robertson Parkway exit off Interstate 24 east of downtown Nashville, nearly 20 miles east of the suburb of 33,000 people.

Then things flew off in a totally unexpected direction.

Behind the wheel was a 71-year-old woman "in possession of a baggy full of prescription pills and holding a parakeet-type bird," the department (ahem) tweeted.

The woman was arrested; the bird, who was unharmed, was taken to animal control.
