Pedestrian-Protecting Posts Coming To Lower Broadway
In January, Metro Public Works will begin installing bollards to increase pedestrian safety in Lower Broadway's Neon Canyon.

NASHVILLE, TN — Nashville's prime tourist district will get an extra layer of pedestrian safety starting in January, as Metro will begin installing bollards along stretches of the sidewalk in Lower Broadway's Neon Canyon.
Pedestrian deaths are on the rise in Nashville and a spate of recent terrorist attacks from Charlottesville to Paris to New York have been precipitated by cars driving into crowds of people. Metro Public Works will install bollards along Broadway between Third and Fifth Avenues — roughly from Broadway Boot Company and Opry Originals to Tootsie's and Bridgestone Arena — during a sidewalk expansion project to begin just after the new year.
Public Works began its sidewalk-safety expansion project more than two years ago along Broadway, which has high pedestrian volume but relatively narrow sidewalks. Since then, barricades have been installed along much of the stretch, along with scramble crossings to aid in pedestrian movement.
