Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Is October 28

The DEA's annual pill drop-off day is Saturday. Find out where to turn in old prescriptions in Nashville.

NASHVILLE, TN — Saturday, Oct. 28 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's "Count It! Lock It! Drop It!" campaign.

The DEA and other organizations have set designated turn-in points for expired and unused prescriptions, part of an effort to curb opioid and other prescription drug abuse.

At the spring take-back event in April, Tennesseans disposed of more than 15 tons of drugs at 116 take-back events statewide.

Substances Accepted at Take-Back Events

  • Unused or expired prescriptions that you legally possess
  • Unused or expired medications that were prescribed to a person in your household

Substances Not Accepted at Take-Back Events

  • Illicit drugs, such as marijuana, heroin and LSD
  • Insulin syringes or other medical sharps and needles
  • Asthma inhalers
  • Iodine-containing medications
  • Mercury-containing thermometers

  • Walgreens, 3010 West End
  • Walgreens, 2500 Gallatin Ave.
  • Walgreens, 2611 Franklin Pike
  • Walgreens, 5555 Edmondson Pike
  • Walgreens, 2819 Nolensville Pike

In addition, drop boxes are available at Metro Nashville Police precincts and the Belle Meade Police Department.
