School Of The Arts Student Arrested For Instagram Threat

A 16-year-old told police his threat to Nashville School of the Arts was a joke. He was arrested.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A 16-year-old Nashville School of the Arts student was arrested Saturday after allegedly using social media to threaten his school.

Police say the teen used Instagram to "(imply) he was going to commit acts of violence at the school." He was arrested at his home at 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Multiple people saw the post and reported it to Metro Police. The 16-year-old reportedly told officers he was responsible for the post but that it was a joke.

"The MNPD and the District Attorney’s Office take threats to our schools very seriously, regardless of the motive, and will launch criminal investigations into them. Teens are cautioned that there is zero tolerance for such actions," MNPD said in a statement.

The 16-year-old in this case is charged with making a false report of an emergency, a felony.
