Swimmer Drowns In Cumberland River

A 31-year-old woman swimming with her boyfriend drowned in the Cumberland Friday.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Recovery crews discovered the body of a 31-year-old woman who drowned while swimming in the Cumberland River near downtown Friday.

Investigators said the woman and her boyfriend were swimming near the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge at 5 p.m. Friday when she went under. The boyfriend called for help. Nashville Fire, Metro Police and the Office of Emergency Management responded with boats, divers, sonar and K-9 units.

The woman's body was recovered around 8 p.m.

Her identity was not immediately released.
