Tennessee Volunteers To Play As Scheduled Saturday, Titans-Jags Game A Go Sunday

The UT Volunteers will play Saturday in Gainesville and the Titans will travel to Jacksonville for a game Sunday.

NASHVILLE, TN — The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that Saturday's game between the University of Tennessee and the University of Florida will go on as scheduled for 2:30 Central Time in Gainesville, Fla.

There was speculation the game might be moved due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, which caused widespread power outages throughout the Sunshine State and left massive amounts of water damage in its wake. In addition, there was concern that travel might be problematic and hotel rooms would be scarce for the Vols annual trip to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, but UF officials assured the SEC everything would be a go by Saturday.

Initially the NFL announced a wait-and-see posture regarding Sunday's scheduled game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville's EverBank Field. At a press conference Tuesday, Jacksonville mayor Lenny Curry and Jaguars president Mark Lamping announced the stadium passed the requisite inspections and will host the game as scheduled, set for noon Central Sunday.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan will donate $1 million to Hurricane Irma relief and 5,000 tickets will be available for free to first responders and residents of Jacksonville.
