Tom Hanks Can’t Make It To Nashville Couple’s Wedding

NASHVILLE, TN -- Tom Hanks will not be attending a Nashville couple's wedding.

Given that the two-time Academy Award winner and beloved American is extremely busy and has never actually met the affianced -- Kristen Jerkins and Joe Dobrin -- it perhaps should not come as a surprise that he will not attend their May 5 wedding.

But in a manner befitting his reputation as a likable -- if a bit goofy -- celebrity, Hanks did send the couple a pleasant surprise. Insert "You've Got Mail" joke here.

Hanks sent an autographed Polaroid "taken of me while I ponder if I there is some way I can make it to your wedding."

To the chagrin of the happy couple -- and let's just presume Hanks as well -- he will be rehearsing for a play. As a consolation, Hanks offered up a pair of tickets to his play, which debuts in June in Santa Monica.

Hanks concluded by congratulating the couple and encouraging them to "throw down."
