Women's March In Nashville: What You Need To Know

Thousands are expected in downtown Nashville Saturday Jan. 20 for Women's March 2.0.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Nashville, along with dozens of other cities around the country, will hold Women's March 2.0 Saturday, Jan. 20, marking the anniversary of the original event held in 2017 the day after President Donald Trump's inauguration.

Last year's event in Nashville drew between 15,000 and 20,000 for a march from Nissan Stadium to Public Square Park. The march-concluding rally is believed to be the largest ever public gathering at the civic space fronting the Historic Metro Courthouse.

The year's March begins at Public Square Park at 2 p.m. and then will proceed down James Robertson Parkway to Bicentennial Mall for a closing rally scheduled for 3 to 4:30 p.m. Among the speakers at that rally is Nina Donovan, the 20-year-old Middle Tennessee State University student whose poem "Nasty Woman" became a national talking point when actress and activist (and Williamson County resident) Ashley Judd read it during the march in Washington.

This year's event begins with a symposium at TSU's downtown Avon Williams Campus at 9:30 a.m. with a range of seminars on art and activism, elections, organizing and even how to chant.

Heavy security and street closures are likely, though Metro Police haven't yet announced those plans.
