2 Texas Teens Killed, 2 Injured In Crash After Graduation Rehearsal

A pair of high school seniors from Corpus Christi were killed while driving to school from graduation rehearsal on Tuesday morning.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — A Texas school district is in mourning after two of its students were killed in a crash just days before graduation.

Four high school seniors from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi were involved in a rollover crash Tuesday morning while driving to school after graduation rehearsal at American Bank Center. Two were killed and two others injured, the Corpus Christi Independent School District said in a statement.

The students' white, two-door vehicle crashed on the 2300 block of North Port Avenue, and the injured victims were taken to a hospital, a Corpus Christi Police Department spokesperson confirmed to Patch. All four of the victims were 18-year-old boys, according to police.

Authorities are still investigating, but early reports suggest speed and racing were contributing factors to the crash, police said.

The names of the victims and the condition of the injured students are not being released out of respect for the families' privacy, the school district said.

The school community is "devastated," Ray High School Principal Roxanne Cuevas said in a statement offering the school's condolences to the victims' loved ones.

Superintendent Roland Hernandez also offered his condolences to the victims' families and offered appreciation for the prayers of the community during "an incredibly challenging time."

Two seats will be left open at Ray High School's graduation ceremony, which will be held Friday afternoon, according to the school district.

The district's crisis counseling team is helping Ray students and staff, and counselors are available across the district for anyone who needs support, the school district said.
