Here are the top stories in Cedar Park-Leander today:
- Following the example of Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD school board approved compensation for school staff members during cancelled class days, due to the ice storm. The school district also “approved double pay for auxiliary employees who were required to work & time and half for employees who worked over 40 hours.” To view the exact schedule of missed days for expected compensation, visit KXAN.
- Two days of brush and tree limb drop-offs for Cedar Park run today, Feb. 11, and Feb. 18, both from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. "Drop-off will take place at Lakeline Park, 1510 Alexis Drive, Cedar Park. The city will only accept unbundled limbs and brush. Officials are cautioning residents to prepare for long lines and wait times." Curbside tree limb pickup will start on Feb. 13. Visit Community Impact Newsletter for all of the strict guidelines on what is acceptable for drop-offs and pickups.
- The first and only hotel in Leander, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, opened up in 2020 and brought in $247,281 of hotel occupancy tax to the city. Out of that total, the Chamber of Commerce has $46,645 left to work with for "a statue, signage for Old Town Park, or a hotel study." The chamber's budget of $126,556 for last year went toward information centers, advertising, promotion of the arts, historical preservation and more.
