- Leander residents went into Phase 2 water conservation after its water supplier "found a leak in a pipeline that feeds raw water from Lake Travis to its treatment plant." In the meantime, water supply is rerouted to the Sandy Creek water treatment plant. No estimate on when repairs will be done, but further discussion is planned for a Feb. 22 meeting at Round Rock City Hall. (KXAN)
- Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority is addressing fears of future extreme droughts. The organization is "building a deep-water intake and tunnel system," drawing water from Lake Travis to a new station. Cedar Park Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin's comment on this plan: "It gives us a much deeper straw than we ever had." This $194.4 million project started in 2022 and will reach completion in June 2027. Looking at the numbers, Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority will be able to provide Leander, Cedar Park and Round Rock with 145 million gallons per day. Read more details on KVUE.
- Randall Malik was ushered in as Leander's new Economic Development Director at City Council's Feb. 16 meeting. Malik has 13 consecutive years of experience in economic development, recently serving as assistant director of economic development for the City of Cedar Park. He also has "master’s and bachelor’s degrees in public administration from Texas State University, according to the city." More details at Community Impact Newspaper.
- Leander ISD has three propositions that total about $762 million in the May bond elections. Prop. A's $698.3 million will go toward school facilities, buses and vehicles. Prop. B's $50.8 million will go toward technology equipment and infrastructure. Prop. C's $13.6 million will go toward renovations of two different performing arts centers. Stop by KVUE for more details.
