CONROE, TX - The Conroe-Montgomery County Patch understands the importance of staying connected to one's community, helping readers do just that with a list of five Twitter accounts to follow.

  • MCAS Pets: The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is open daily for adoptions, offering $25 for dogs, $25 for cats, adoption tips, volunteer options for adults and youth, foster resources, donor options and wish list, lost pet resources, events calendar and a regularly updated blog. The MCAS works to re-stray or otherwise unwanted dogs and cats while promoting humane treatment of animals, preventing cruelty to animals and providing a facility to return pets to their rightful owners. The shelter annually takes in a staggering 20,000 homeless and unwanted pets.
  • MC Food Bank: The Montgomery County Food Bank serves 48 non-profit agencies throughout the county. The private, non-profit organization annually collects and distributes more than 8.1 million pounds of food, which equates to to 6.6 million meals to low-income children, adults and seniors living in the county. The food bank currently serves an average of more than 35,000 individuals per month.
  • Conroe ISD: The Conroe Independent School District is one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state. Its Twitter page offers regular updates on school-wide events, programs, award ceremonies, special performances, seasonal contests, holiday observances and celebrations, drug prevention, career fairs, sports games and other news.
  • Conroe-Lake Conroe Chamber: Designated as an accredited, a three-star Chamber of Commerce by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Conroe-Lake Conroe Chamber maintains a mission to strengthen the economic environment and quality of life for residents in Montgomery County. Chamber-hosted events for the month of November are set to include a Business After Hours networking event, with no reservations required to attend, and meetings with the Chamber's Education Committee—which is responsible for the Chamber's annual job fair, teacher appreciation luncheon and Next Generation High School Leadership program—and Voice of Business Committee, which serves as a clearing house of issues of importance to the business community communicates with local government, the Texas legislature and Congress.
  • Downtown Conroe: The Downtown Conroe Twitter account encourages locals and tourists to experience the restaurants, performing theatre productions, live music, shops and history of Conroe, offering up-to-date information on businesses set within century-old, historic and restored buildings, photography from around the Conroe area and a regularly updated calendar of events that includes—but is not limited to—a gala and art auction on Nov. 19, Christmas preview sales and a farmers market in December.
