Conroe ISD Looking for School Names

The Conroe ISD board is needs help coming up with names for two new schools.

CONROE, TX — Since they are kind of stumped, and naming schools P.S. whatever isn't done in Texas, the Conroe ISD board is asking for help from the community in naming two new campuses.

Both schools are located in Southern Montgomery County. The first school, a new elementary campus, is located on Guadalupe River Boulevard near the intersection with Falls Lake Bend.

The second campus, a new high school is located on State Highway 99 near the intersection with Colorado River Drive.

The district's naming policy requires that elementary schools be named after:

"geographical areas; prominent persons or public officials who have served the District or community with distinction; persons who have gained recognition in education or the arts; National or State heroes whose names lend prestige and status to an institution of learning and whose lives and achievements serve as positive role models for the students who will attend the particular school; and persons donating land or money for the facility."

An example is Neil A. Armstrong, which is why the district named Armstrong Elementary after him.

Conroe ISD requires that high schools be named after geographical areas, like Caney Creek.

The district will be accepting names through Aug. 12. The submitted names will be presented to the board on Aug. 14 with a final decision being made on Sept. 14.
