Conroe PD Places MedSafe Receptacle In Lobby For Drug Collection
Conroe PD announced earlier this month they were partnering with Sharps Compliance Inc. to provide safe drug disposal solutions

CONROE, TX — The Conroe Police Department has found a simple and innovative way to combat the prescription drug epidemic in Montgomery County. Conroe PD announced earlier this month they were partnering with Houston-based Sharps Compliance Inc. to provide safe drug and narcotics disposal solutions, instead of flushing them down the toilet or dumping them in the garbage.
On July 8, the Conroe Police Department placed a blue MedSafe drug disposal receptacle in the lobby of the department.
MedSafe combines a stainless-steel collection receptacle with a removable prepaid ship back inner liner. When the inner liner fills, authorized persons can safely remove the liner from the collection receptacle, seal it, and return it via common carrier.

Inner lines are treated by incineration, rendering the pharmaceuticals non-retrievable per the DEA's destruction standard.
The receptacle provides a safe disposal site for residents to take their outdated prescriptions, over the counter drugs, and liquid medications that are 4 ounces or fewer, and dispose of them safely and property, officials said.

The liquid medications cannot be dropped into the receptacle unless they are in a sealed plastic bag. Illegal drugs, illegal narcotics or narcotics paraphernalia, such as bongs, needles or other items are not allowed, officials said.
David Tusa, president of Sharps Compliance in Houston, said in a statement that Sharps is happy to partner with Conroe PD on this disposal program.
"Safe disposal of prescription medications is a vital strategy for preventing prescription drug abuse and keeping our water supply safe," Tusa said.
