MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — Week 3 presents an excellent slate of high school football games for Montgomery County teams.

On Thursday, Montgomery outscored Beaumont United 23-7 in the second half to pull out a 23-19 comeback victory and keep it's unblemished record intact. It's the first 3-0 start for the Bears since 2015.

Friday's slate contains several big games, including District 8-5A Division I openers for Magnolia and Magnolia West, both on the road.

The Bulldogs will play at second-ranked and district title favorite College Station, and the challenge for Magnolia will be slowing down the Cougars' high-powered offense. Magnolia West travels to face Lufkin, another team likely to be in the thick of the title race. The Mustangs bring in a 2-0 record and a punishing run game powered by running backs Kai Aroca and Hunter Bilbo, who both have over 250 rushing yards and two touchdowns in two games this season.

Also Friday, The Woodlands will host Bridgeland at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah for a non-district matchup that's sure to bring the fireworks. The Woodlands is looking for a bounce back year after a 5-4 campaign with a first-round exit in a pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

The Highlanders are 2-0, but they'll have their biggest test against the 19th-ranked Bears. Bridgeland quarterback Conner Weigman, who is committed to Texas A&M, has thrown for 644 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns in two games this season. He uncharacteristically threw four interceptions in a 24-14 win over Shadow Creek last week, but has otherwise been stellar. He'll be a tough test for Highlander linebacker and fellow A&M commit Martrell Harris as well as the rest of The Woodlands defense.

The Highlanders counter with running back JoBarre Reed, who already has a pair of 100-yard games under his belt in 2021.
