CONROE, TX — A Nacogdoches man was sentenced to 35 years in state prison on Thursday for the murder of his infant daughter last summer. Tyrese Dewan Hightower, 20, was convicted as part of plea deal to the beating death of his 12-week-old daughter, according to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

On July 23, 2018, the baby was taken by Life Flight to Texas Children's Hospital in The Woodlands with severe trauma. The baby died later that day, officials said.

During their investigation, deputies determined the child had suffered blunt force trauma, and that Hightower caused the child's death by "striking her with his hands or with or against a hard object," according to the press release.

“It is heartbreaking that this beautiful baby’s life was taken so suddenly and senselessly at the hands of her own father. In her short life she brought so much joy to so many people,” Montgomery County Asst. DA Darla Faulkner said in a statement.
