NEW CANEY, TX — A 29-year-old man accused of causing life threatening injuries to a 5-year-old boy faces felony charges for seriously bodily injury to a child. Jose Manuel Gonzales was arrested May 1 for an incident that was reported on April 19 at the Kingwood Medical Center.

According to police, the child was brought to the hospital with serious injuries to his torso and groin area. Gonzales and the boys mother claimed the injuries were a result of the boy being run over by a bicycle.

Investigators said the boy was listed in critical condition and was transferred to Texas Children's Hospital where he underwent life saving surgery. Investigators learned from doctors that the child's injuries were inconsistent with a bicycle injury and called CPS.
