Rep. Brady Speaks Against Federal Funding For Abortion: Watch
The Republican lawmaker from The Woodlands spoke on the House floor on Monday against the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Kevin Brady of The Woodlands spoke Monday against Democrats' attempt to leave the Hyde Amendment out of the latest appropriations bill.
Brady posted a video of his speech on his YouTube and Facebook accounts.
The Hyde Amendment has been attached in some form to every Health and Human Services appropriations bill since 1976, three years after the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade. The amendment prohibits the use of federal funding toward abortions, except in the cases of rape, incest or endangerment of the mother's life.

The House Appropriations Committee passed a Health and Human Services appropriations bill without the Hyde Amendment last week, and the bill will likely be on the House floor by next week, according to a House Appropriations Committee news release.
Brady, a Republican who represents Texas' 8th congressional district, used his minute of general speech time on the floor of the House to claim that the Hyde Amendment has saved 2.5 million lives since its inclusion in 1976. He also requested that HR18 be brought in front of the House. The bill would codify the provisions of the Hyde Amendment into law, prohibit federal employees from performing abortions and ban abortions in federal health care facilities.

"This is an affront to the majority of Americans who don't want their tax dollars to fund abortions," Brady said in his speech.
