Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. A fire broke out in the basement of the Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas on Thursday, leading to the evacuation of the building. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the incident and discovered the fire in the ductwork of the HVAC system, requesting additional resources to control the blaze. It was determined that the fire was accidental, sparked by debris inside the ductwork ignited by a contract worker's drill. Fortunately, everyone was safely evacuated, and the fire was extinguished with the assistance of approximately 70-80 firefighters. (CBS Dallas)
  2. The Dallas Police Department is urgently seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect or suspect vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Fatema Duncan. The incident took place on May 27 on West Camp Wisdom Road, and authorities have released a blurry photograph of the gray or silver SUV believed to be involved. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or its location to come forward and contact Det. Kenneth Watson of the Vehicle Crimes Unit at (972) 504-5076 or Kenneth.Watson@dallaspolice.gov. (Irving Weekly)
  3. The Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center in Dallas collaborated with the City of Dallas and the North Texas Food Bank to host a mobile pantry event on Thursday, providing assistance to hundreds of people in need. The center has been actively supporting the community since the pandemic began in 2020, organizing events like "Center Table" during holidays and times when residents of southern Dallas may require additional help. Many attendees expressed their struggles with increased food costs, inflation, and impending higher energy bills, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in a food desert area lacking nearby grocery stores.
