Trackdown: Help Dallas police solve 2024 shootout that killed bystander (fox4news.com) — Dallas police are renewing their call for help solving a 2024 shootout that killed 23-year-old Charles “Chuck” Dennis III as he walked home in Old East Dallas. Detectives want tips, video, or witnesses tied to a white SUV and small blue sedan, and Crime Stoppers is offering a reward as his grieving family pleads for answers.
   

2. A New Ordinance in Dallas has Banned Vaping in the City (1025kiss.com) — Dallas residents now face a citywide ban on vaping in most public spaces, with rules mirroring the existing cigarette restrictions. The ordinance, passed by the Dallas City Council, prohibits vaping in offices, parks, and within 15 feet of building entrances, while allowing only designated vaping areas. Locals and businesses must comply as enforcement and updated signage requirements take effect.
   

3. Dallas' finances have come into question in recent years. Is the city in trouble? Experts say Dallas still has healthy reserves and strong bond-market confidence, yet looming maintenance needs, pension gaps, and tighter state oversight could force more cuts or tough choices for residents in coming years.
   

4. UNT Dallas Hosts Drive-Thru Food Pantry to Combat Hunger in Southern Dallas (northdallasgazette.com) — UNT Dallas is hosting its final 2025 drive-thru food pantry this Friday, Dec. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at its southern Dallas campus, offering free groceries to students and local families. Supported by the City of Dallas, Dallas County, and the North Texas Food Bank, the program has already distributed 820,000 pounds of food and will resume monthly events in January to fight rising food insecurity.
   

5. Dallas mayor pitches city to aerospace leaders during Montreal trip (cbsnews.com) — Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson used a quick trip to Montreal this week to court major aerospace companies and promote the city’s business climate. He highlighted existing operations at Dallas Love Field and DFW, discussed expanding Bombardier’s partnership, and explored tech and art collaborations tied to Dallas’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
