- On Monday, Jul. 10, Patrick and Phelan released information that addressed an agreement on a proposal that will cut property taxes in Texas. Currently, Texas is ranked No. 7 in terms of its high property taxes, and Dallas specifically has a higher property tax than the national average. A majority of homeowners in Texas are looking forward to the vote on this idea; however, Texas county governments are mostly funded by property taxes. (Dallas Observer)
- On Saturday, Jul. 8, at a birthday party in a Dallas Airbnb, four teens were shot including a 16-year-old who was killed. The neighbor in the home next to the Airbnb was out of town; however, she saw and heard a young man in her security camera call out for help. The home was on Pompano Beach Drive in southeastern Dallas and the unfortunate events that caused a death took place around 11:00 p.m. (WFAA.com)
- On Monday, Jul. 10, the U.S. Department of Justice revealed that 50-year-old Umeka Treymane Myers, a supervisor of the Dallas County jail, will be sentenced due to embezzling over $250,000 from inmate property funds from 2018 to 2021. The woman worked at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center's inmate property vault which is in charge of refunding commissary account balances. She reportedly had all control over error messages that would come up if balances were entered incorrectly, which gave her the power to embezzle over the years. (WFAA.com)
