- Dallas officially made the list for the worst traffic among major U.S. cities. Coming in at No. 14 in a list of 25 major cities, the report from INRIX said traffic in Dallas cost drivers about $953 last year. Other Texas cities made the list like Houston (No. 9) and Austin (No. 18). (CW33 Dallas)
- For the second year in a row, Dallas Police Department reported a decrease in homicides for 2022. The police department tallied 214 murders; however, this number doesn't include homicides which are considered justifiable or those incidents when the department is not the lead investigator in the city. According to The Dallas Morning News, the homicide count for 2022 was 243. (Subscription: The Dallas Morning News)
- A two-time escapee from jail is back behind bars – this time, in Dallas. Tyler Charles Payne, 31, escaped from the Choctaw County Jail in Mississippi on Christmas Eve – for the second time – before he was arrested in Dallas. Police were pursuing a stolen Porche on I-35, which Payne was driving, when it crashed. Payne was ultimately taken to the Dallas County Jail. (KXII)
