Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. This week, Dallas is hosting the 95th Texas FFA State Convention. This event brings in thousands of high schools from across the state to connect with each other and leaders in agriculture. Texas FFA Association Executive Director Jennifer Jackson explained that agriculture touches every aspect of modern life, a the convention is a chance to ignite students' passions for the agricultural industry. Dallas is set to host the convention six times in the next 10 years. (NBCDFW)
  2. So far in 2023, three people in unrelated cases have died after being taken into custody by the Dallas Police Department. Two of those incidents occurred within a two-week period last month. Each incident is being investigated by DPD and autopsy results have not yet been released for the two most recent deaths. Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the death of Manuel Najera, 43 — who went into cardiac arrest in January shortly after being arrested for combative behavior — was an accident, and the case is being referred to the District Attorney's office. (Dallas Observer)
  3. Temperatures in Dallas are expected to reach triple digits again this week. Following some cooler weather and scattered storms on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday will usher in several days of high temperatures that are expected to exceed 100 degrees. The heat index could reach 110 degrees more than once before cooler weather moves into the area on Sunday, Jul. 16. (Fox 4 News)
