Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- The Dallas-Fort Worth area has had its third straight month of declining home prices. According to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Index, the area home prices have declined by 2.1 percent since August. The decline is due to the Federal Reserve increasing interest rates which creates more expensive mortgage financing. (The Dallas Morning News)
- Dallas' Baylor Scott and White Medical Center Uptown is paying a penalty for high levels of readmitting patients within 30 days of their initial medical care. The Medicare penalty was introduced in 2012 to promote a better quality of healthcare. The hospital will be paying a three percent penalty. (NBC DFW)
- Dallas officials are considering a ban on gas-powered lawn tools. City officials considered a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers last year due to health and noise concerns. The new proposal would likely take effect as early as 2027 if it is approved. The transition will be expensive and difficult for the city's lower-income residents. (Newstalk1290)
