Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- Due to the lack of beds, the Dallas County jail has hundreds of inmates awaiting transfer to state psychiatric facilities. The state has decided to spend $1.2 billion on state mental health facilities, including a new hospital in Dallas. The new Dallas hospital started construction on Dec. 5 at the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Medical District Drive. (Axios.com)
- According to The Dallas Morning News, Dallas has less public parks than many cities in the nation. Mayor Eric Johnson has called for an inventory of city land to determine if Dallas can create more parks, playgrounds, sports courts, and/or affordable housing. - Soul Rep Theatre Company presents the regional premiere production of "Travisville" written by Dallas native and celebrated film actor and playwright William Jackson Harper. Inspired by Jim Schutze’s book "The Accommodation," the play is set in 1960s Texas and it is "a straightforward and brutally honest statement to the world by African-Americans of their plight in gentrification."
