Rough time for birds at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center prompts a rethink in Dallas (dallasnews.com) — Dallas officials are moving to make the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center far safer for migrating birds, after thousands of collisions have been documented at downtown buildings. The city’s Environmental Commission will vote Wednesday on bird-friendly lighting and glass standards, which could later be adopted by the full City Council and shape the center’s redesign for years to come.

Hutchins mayor speaks on reported ICE holding center (wfaa.com) — A massive ICE holding center that could house up to 9,500 people is being considered for Hutchins, a Dallas suburb, and the mayor is firmly opposed. For Dallas-area residents, the debate comes amid memories of a deadly shooting at the Dallas ICE office and another violent incident at a nearby detention center last year.

The Links, Incorporated partners with North Texas churches and New Friends New Life to support human trafficking victims (wfaa.com) — Dallas-area chapters of The Links, Incorporated are teaming up with New Friends New Life and 17 North Texas churches, many in Dallas, to spotlight human trafficking during Sunday services on Jan. 11. Members will wear blue, show educational videos, and share resources so families can recognize warning signs and better protect teens and women across Dallas and the wider region.

Dallas students paint mural that brings school values to life (nbcdfw.com) — Students at Cigarroa Elementary in Dallas are helping paint a colorful “Cowboy Commitments” mural that celebrates their school’s core values. Working alongside volunteers and the nonprofit United to Learn, kids from Dallas ISD and local private schools are leaving a lasting reminder of kindness, responsibility, and pride in their campus hallways.
