📰 News we're reading

1. 2 people injured, 20 displaced in apartment fire, Dallas fire officials say (tspantx.com) — An early-morning fire at the Whitehurst Apartments in northeast Dallas left two residents hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and made all 36 units in the building uninhabitable, displacing at least 20 people. Dallas firefighters battled heavy flames for hours before declaring the blaze out, while the Red Cross stepped in to help residents find housing. Investigators say the accidental fire started on a first-floor balcony near a heat source.

2. Office Vacancy and Suburban Shift Redraw the Dallas Real Estate Map (propmodo.com) — Dallas’ office market is splitting, with older downtown towers struggling as companies flock to newer, amenity-rich areas like Uptown with lower vacancies and stronger leasing. This shift is pressuring downtown landlords to consider costly upgrades or residential conversions. How city leaders and property owners respond could reshape where jobs, investment, and daily activity concentrate in Dallas for years.

3. Suspect in custody after pursuit ends on Interstate 35 in Dallas (fox4news.com) — Dallas police say a Saturday traffic stop in South Dallas turned into a chase that ended near I-35 and E. Colorado Blvd, with a 63-year-old suspect taken into custody. He is now held in Dallas County Jail while investigators sort out the final charges from the incident.

4. Hundreds of marine animals from Miami Seaquarium find new home at Children's Aquarium Dallas (cbsnews.com) — Children’s Aquarium Dallas has taken in hundreds of rescued marine animals from the recently closed Miami Seaquarium, and many are already on display for local families. Staff say upgraded life-support systems and habitats in Dallas are giving sharks, eels, and reef fish a safer long-term home while inspiring kids to care about oceans and Texas waterways.

5. 2 dead bodies found Sunday inside McKinney home, 3rd man shot by officers: police (star-telegram.com) — Two people were found dead inside a McKinney home Sunday, and police shot and wounded a third man they say was armed in a bedroom, a case likely to concern many North Dallas–area residents. The 34-year-old suspect is hospitalized in stable condition as detectives investigate the relationship between him and the two older victims.
