South Dallas resident launches campaign pushing for more H-E-B locations (star-telegram.com) — A South Dallas resident is spending his own money on a “H‑E‑B Why” campaign to bring the popular grocer into food-desert neighborhoods like Oak Cliff, even as a new H‑E‑B moves forward in North Dallas. He’s questioning why Dallas, unlike other major Texas cities, still lacks inner-city stores despite the chain owning property locally and expanding in nearby suburbs.
   

2. Water main breaks near I-35 at Oak Lawn, Dallas Fire Rescue says (wfaa.com) — A water main has broken near I-35 and Oak Lawn Avenue in Dallas, flooding the area with up to three feet of water and closing nearby access roads and the northbound I-35 exit. Dallas Fire Rescue and city crews are on scene, but there’s no timeline yet for repairs or reopening.
   

3. Outreach centers opening warm refuges to help Dallas homeless people amid dropping temperatures (wfaa.com) — As temperatures drop in Dallas, outreach group Our Calling is turning its daytime center into an overnight warming refuge, offering meals and beds for hundreds of unhoused neighbors. With advocates estimating about 10,000 people experiencing homelessness locally, these emergency shelters and volunteer efforts are becoming critical lifelines during cold North Texas nights.
   

4. Police standoff in downtown Dallas ends in fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound (dallasnews.com) — A police attempt to arrest a wanted felon in downtown Dallas on Monday led to an hours-long standoff in a Commerce Street parking garage near Neiman Marcus, ending when the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers or bystanders were injured, but authorities have not yet released what charges the man was facing.
   

5. Artist Paints Mural For Homeless In Dallas (cw33.com) — An artist is painting a “You Are Loved” mural at a Dallas homeless shelter, inviting residents to help create a message of hope. The project, part of a national series, aims to counter feelings of worthlessness among people experiencing homelessness in the city.
