TCU Dining Hosts Allergy-Friendly Virtual Cooking Class
Texas Christian University Dining took a flavorful leap into the world of allergy-friendly cooking with a virtual class held via Instagram
Texas Christian University (TCU) Dining took a flavorful leap into the world of allergy-friendly cooking with a virtual class held via Instagram Live on Friday, February 16th, as part of their Healthy Frog program.
Inspired by the success of Magnolias Zero 7, TCU's dedicated allergy-free location on campus, the event aimed to cater to the growing interest in allergy-friendly recipes and offer students an insider's view of the award-winning dishes created by the Magnolias Zero 7 team.
Responding to student feedback requesting more allergy-conscious culinary experiences, the virtual format allowed participants to cook from the comfort of their homes while still connecting with the Magnolias culinary team. The event featured insights from the Campus Dietitian on allergy-friendly swaps and provided a platform for students to engage with their fellow Horned Frogs.

The highlight of the virtual cooking class was a delectable dinner featuring flank steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and lemon green beans, crafted by Magnolias Zero 7's manager and culinarian, Asia Eubanks-Tompkins. Tompkins, a Southern native from Kentucky, expressed her passion for making a difference through signature creations that touch the soul, saying, "These recipes inspired me because it's a meal that comes from the soul, and who doesn't love Soul Food?"
Adding a sweet touch to the event, the dessert recipe showcased a raspberry chocolate cupcake, a creation from TCU students during an allergy-friendly bake-off last fall. This dessert has since joined the array of allergy-free treats offered at Magnolias Zero 7.

To ensure inclusivity, the meal was also served at Magnolias Zero 7 for dinner, ensuring that students without kitchen equipment could still participate in this exciting event. TCU Dining's decision to include both virtual and in-person components aimed to provide all students with the opportunity to delve into the world of allergy-friendly cooking.
Participants of the virtual cooking class were treated not only to a hands-on culinary experience but also received a digital recipe book and an informative article about allergy-friendly recipe swaps. Moreover, each participant had the chance to win a "Good Vibes Self-Care Kit" comprising student wellness essentials.
TCU Dining is committed to infusing love into every meal, and the culinary team was thrilled to share their expertise and passion, encouraging students to express love for others and self-care through delightful culinary creations.
