TCU Dining Hosts Immune-Boosting Mocktail Event for Dry January

Healthy Frog Mocktails created by TCU Campus Dietitian Maddie Jacobs, MS, RD, LD and Executive Chef Connor Green

At Texas Christian University (TCU), TCU Dining hosted an Immune-Boosting Mocktails event in the resident dining hall on January 25th as part of its Healthy Frog program. In honor of Dry January, the event educated students about responsible decision-making around alcohol during which they sampled alcohol-free drinks.

The event featured made-to-order Mocktails created by Campus Dietitian Maddie Jacobs, MS, RD, LD and Executive Chef of Resident Dining Connor Green.

Students could choose from a variety of mocktails including a Blueberry-Infused Nojito, Cranberry Moscow Mock-mule, Espresso Martinot, and Sparkling Grape Faux-mosa.

Each featured drink contained immune-boosting ingredients, providing students with hydration and nutrients to stay healthy as they start the Spring semester.

Also provided was a QR code that links to a digital Mocktail recipe book with "Notes from the Dietitian" to accompany each recipe and an article about immune-boosting foods.

The gathering also reflected the changing lifestyle choices among students, particularly the increasing trend of reducing alcohol consumption for improved physical and mental health. The event not only catered to this evolving preference but also equipped students with practical skills and a chance to connect with peers sharing similar health goals.

The Healthy Frog team also partnered with TCU's Substance Use & Recovery Services team to provide education for students regarding responsible decision-making with alcohol and harm reduction techniques and to connect students to resources and peer support communities for substance use recovery.

The turnout was impressive, with over 100 participants eagerly queuing up to savor the unique mocktails.

One enthusiastic student said, “This is part of what makes TCU so special, being able to learn about resources on campus while sampling delicious drinks.”

The success of the event not only aligns seamlessly with the Healthy Frog program's mission but also underscores the University's commitment to delivering comprehensive wellness education in a dynamic format.
