What Residents Love Most About Overture River District
Finding A Sense of Community is One of the Keys to Happiness for Active Adults
(Fort Worth, TX) – There comes a time in everyone’s life when their partying days are over, and they just want to relax and enjoy life. For many people it’s called retirement.
Around the time Scott Cannon, 69, of Ft. Worth left his job as an activities director at Texas Wesleyan, a small, private university near downtown Ft. Worth, Texas, he was living in an apartment complex where he was probably the oldest one there.
“My neighbors were in their 30s and I was in my 60s,” he said. “I really didn’t feel at home. I didn’t feel comfortable there.”

Little did he know his life would soon be in for a big change. In early 2022, he saw a sign go up in his neighborhood announcing the pre-leasing of a 55+ active adult community called Overture River District.
Not only was he the first person to inquire after the sign went up, he was one of the first to move in when the community opened its doors in June 2022. Overture River District is a 55+ active adult community in Fort Worth, Texas, featuring one and two-bedroom apartment homes ranging in size from 600 to 1,700 square feet.

With resort-inspired amenities that include daily events and fitness classes, social hours, community meals, onsite access to services and maintenance-free living, residents can spend their time doing what they want to do rather than tasks they must do, like mowing the lawn or maintaining a home.
Plus, residents have direct access to the Trinity River with endless miles of scenic river trails perfect for jogging, leisurely strolls, cycling, and even fishing. For those with pets, there is the added convenience of strategically placed pet stations along the trails for delightful walks with their beloved furry companions.
Cannon says it is all the activities planned for residents that he likes the most about living at Overture River District. “There are six or seven activities offered every day,” said Cannon, who as one of the original depositors took advantage of many of the events offered pre-opening too.
“All the activities they arranged for us enabled people to connect and develop a real sense of community from day one,” said Cannon, who is single and lives within walking distance of several of his now best friends.
Many of Overture River District’s residents, like Cannon, are retirees; but there are also several residents who are still working. Fran Templeton, 68, owns a company that provides autism intervention for adults.
She credits her move to the community for quite literally saving her life. “Just before moving in, I was diagnosed with kidney disease and my doctor told me I needed to start losing weight or I would end up on dialysis. One of the great things about Overture River District is it is a community where I feel safe walking outside the building. I can also walk inside the building and in the gym, and I have access to a heated pool, which is a huge, wonderful thing,” she said. “I also have the support of all the people who live here.”
Since moving to Overture River District, Templeton has lost 70 pounds. “I had to change everything to not end up on dialysis, and Overture River District has really helped me do that,” said Templeton, who especially enjoys attending all the special holiday events the community puts on.
“It’s great to feel like you’re part of a big community. It does away with that isolation many people feel when they get older,” she said.
