Commissioners clash on CAD appointees, county judge breaks the tie twice (kjas.com) — Jasper County commissioners have split sharply over who should sit on the Central Appraisal District board, a decision that could determine whether an estimated $2 million surplus is returned to Jasper ISD, the City of Jasper, and other entities. After two tie votes, County Judge Mark Allen twice broke the deadlock, backing the county’s nominees and keeping Jasper resident Mike Kinnear on the board while rejecting Jasper ISD’s second nominee.

Auto theft suspect captured in South Jasper County...two other suspects still at large (kjas.com) — Deputies in south Jasper County have arrested a 16-year-old suspected of fleeing a stolen vehicle from Beaumont, and they’re still searching nearby woods for two others. The hunt is centered around County Roads 803, 797, and 804 near Highway 62 in Buna, with aircraft and tracking dogs involved. Residents who see anything suspicious are urged to call the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
   

4. Southeast Texas groups work to fight food insecurity in rural communities (12newsnow.com) — Rising demand at the Greater Jasper Share Food Pantry now means more than 700 local families rely on its help each month, up from 250. Backed by over $157,000 in donations and regional partners, Jasper’s food bank is expanding support to rural communities where long drives and few grocery options make getting fresh food especially hard.
