Sharon McCombs Fontenot (americanpress.com) — Sugar Land residents are mourning the passing of 80-year-old Sharon McCombs Fontenot, a longtime local who died November 20 with her family by her side. A Louisiana native, Sharon built a career in mathematics and research before devoting herself to family, genealogy, and helping others trace their roots. She chose cremation and is interred at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

Houston is the 'worst' city to move to in Texas, new ranking says (houstonchronicle.com) — Sugar Land shows up strong in a new ConsumerAffairs ranking, placing No. 7 among the 50 largest Texas cities to move to, even as nearby Houston lands dead last. The study weighed affordability, safety, economic strength, health care, education, and quality of life, with suburbs and exurbs generally outperforming big cities. Houston’s safety and poverty challenges contrast with its still-strong quality-of-life score and rapid growth.

Enterprise in state semis 28-8; advances to championship round (victoriaadvocate.com) — Sugar Land gets a brief shoutout as legendary rusher Kenneth Hall’s long-standing Texas high school career rushing record is finally broken during a state semifinal game. Shiner’s dominant 28-8 win over Mt. Enterprise sends the Comanches back to the UIL 2A Division II state championship, where they’ll face Muenster in a rematch at AT&T Stadium on Thursday.
