Colorado LGBTQ Nightclub Shooting Is The 601st Mass Shooting In 2022
Mass shootings have risen sharply since 2014 — with 240, compared to 633 last year — and 2022 could be the deadliest year yet.

ACROSS AMERICA — Five people were killed, and 18 people were injured Saturday in a shooting at Club Q, an LGBTQ club in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in what was the 601st mass shooting of 2022.
On Monday morning another four people were injured in a mass shooting in Dallas that became the 602nd of the year. That’s according to the Gun Violence Archive, an independent data collection and research group that keeps a running tally of gun violence, collecting information from more than 7,500 law enforcement, media, government and commercial sources.
Incidents qualifying as mass shootings are those in which four or more people, excluding the shooter, are injured or killed.

With the weekend shootings, the death toll so far this year in mass shootings is 621. Another 2,528 people have been injured.

Mass shootings are an everyday occurrence, averaging more than one a day this year. There have been 29 incidents meeting the Gun Violence Archive definition so far in November. At no time in 2022 has a week passed without at least four mass shootings.

July 4, the holiday celebrating the nation’s independence, was one of the worst days for mass shootings in 2022. Thirteen people were killed and 68 were injured in 10 mass shootings that day. The worst was the 4th of July parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, where eight people were killed and 29 were injured.
The deadliest day for mass shootings was May 24. Twenty-two people were killed and 17 were injured in the only mass shooting that occurred that year, the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas.
The second-deadliest mass shooting in 2022 was the Buffalo, New York, supermarket shooting in which 10 people were killed and three were injured.
At that pace, mass shootings in 2022 could outpace the 2021 total of 633, which was up from 567 in 2020.
