COVID Vaccines Could Protect Against Other Viruses: Study
The study, conducted by Northwestern University researchers, shows it may be possible to develop one vaccine for each coronavirus family.

CHICAGO, IL — While COVID-19 vaccines protect you from the virus behind the current pandemic, the shots may also offer protection from other forms of the coronavirus, a new study suggests.
The study, conducted by researchers at Northwestern University and published this month in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, showed that people who were vaccinated against COVID-19 or were infected with COVID-19 showed an increase in antibodies against both SARS-CoV1 and OC43. This means that in addition to having some immunity against the virus that caused COVID-19, they also had some protection against similar viruses.
While there likely won't ever be a universal coronavirus vaccine, the research conducted shows it may be possible to develop a single vaccine for each coronavirus family.
