DIY Halloween Costume: Robot
Up-cycled supplies like hardware make this DIY robot costume authentic — and inexpensive!

You can dig through recycling to find most of the supplies for this costume. Look for large appliance boxes, like refrigerator boxes, at your local home supply store.

- 1 box to fit your head
- Box cutter
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- 1 Slinky
- 2 spray can lids
- Silver spray paint
- 1 large box to fit your body
- Up-cycled items like computer hardware, bottle caps, etc. to embellish the front
- Flexible aluminum ducts
- Duct tape
Instructions:
1. To create the robot head, remove the slide and top flaps from the smallest box using a box cutter.

2. Flip the box over and use the hot glue gun to attach the Slinky to the top, creating an arch.
3. Glue one spray can lid to each side of the box.
4. Embellish the front of the head with up-cycled materials like bottle caps.
5. Paint the entire box with silver spray paint. Allow to dry.
6. To create the robot body, use the box cutter to remove the flaps from one end of the larger box.
7. Cut one circle on each side of the box for your arms, then cut one circle on the top of the box for your head.

8. Paint the entire larger box with silver spray paint. Allow to dry.
9. Embellish the front of the body with up-cycled materials like computer hardware, bottle caps, CDs, etc.

10. Slip the flexible aluminum ducts onto your arm and leg to determine the best length. Cut the ducts to fit your arms and legs for a total of four ducts.
11. Using duct tape, attach the flexible duct arms to the inside of the box.
12. Place the flexible ducts on your legs, taping the top for reinforcement if needed.
