DIY Mother's Day Gift: Thumbprint Flower Pots For Mom
Transform tiny thumbprints into cute little flowers thanks to this easy painting technique that Mom will love.

This craft combines two of Mom's favorite thing: flowers and keepsakes. Help kids use their painted thumbprints to create anything from a butterfly to a ladybug or bird. Then plant Mom's favorite flowers in each pot. She can use the flower pots year after year, and it will be fun to see how much those little thumbprints grow.
What you'll need:
- Small terra cotta pots
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Potting soil
- 1 packet of Mom's favorite flower seeds

Instructions:
1. Make sure the terra cotta pot is clean and dry.
2. Plan your design. Kids can cover the entire pot with their thumbprints, or they can make cute drawings using other paint colors. Two thumbprints side by side, for instance, could be butterfly wings. One fingerprint could make a cute little ladybug.

3. Use a paintbrush to paint your kid's thumbprint with acrylic paint. Paint only the thumbprint.
4. Have your kid immediately press his or her thumb onto the terra cotta pot.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add as many thumbprints as you'd like to the pot. If you're using thumbprints of multiple colors, be sure to wash your kid's thumb between coats so the colors don't mix and become muddy. Allow the thumbprints to dry.
6. If kids would like to incorporate other colors or designs in addition to the thumbprint, add them using a paintbrush. Allow the additional paint to dry.

7. Add some potting soil to the terra cotta pot. Sprinkle a few of Mom's favorite flower seeds on top, then have kids push the seeds into the soil to cover.
