Earth Day Craft: Chalkboard Mason Jar Planters
Help little green thumbs contribute to Earth Day by planting and caring for a pretty succulent.

Succulents are a great choice for kids' first plant since they're low-maintenance and easy to grow. Help kids create their own planter, then put them in charge of the plant's care. Before you know it, kids might be inspired to plant an entire garden!
Be sure to check the care instructions on the plant you choose and share them with your kiddo. You may need to supervise just to make sure kids are properly watering the plant.

2. Place the jar on a covered surface and coat it with chalkboard spray paint. (It's easiest and safest to perform this step outside, if possible.) Allow the first coat of spray paint to dry.
3. Apply a second coat of spray paint. Allow the second coat of spray paint to dry.
4. Fill the jar almost to the top with potting soil. Place the plant into the soil, then cover its roots with a little more soil.
5. Water the plant.

6. Use the chalk to decorate the jar. Kids can write the name of the plant, or they can just add their own drawings and doodles. The jar can be erased and re-decorated over and over again.
