Earth Day Craft: Painted Leaf Art

Encourage kids to use nature as art for this DIY alternate take on leaf rubbings.

Did you ever create leaf rubbings as a kid? This project is an alternate take on that traditional DIY. Instead of using crayons, though, this craft shows off the lovely veins of the leaf using finger paint that's applied directly to the leaf.

1. Help kids collect several leaves from the yard. It's best to use leaves that are sturdy without any holes or broken pieces. The leaves will also need to fit on the paper roll.

Crayola Kids Finger Paints

2. Let kids use their fingers to finger paint onto the leaf. Kids can coat the entire leaf in one color, or they can use several different colors.

ALEX Toys Paper Roll

3. When kids are happy with their colors, unroll the paper roll and cut a piece large enough to fit the leaf.

4. Press the leaf firmly onto the paper, painted side down. Lift the leaf from the paper immediately; do not move the leaf around since this can cause smearing.

5. Hang your kid's creation on the fridge or the wall. If your child enjoyed the process, they can create an entire collection of leaf art!
