Life is easier when things work for you and not the other way around. That’s the kind of experience that Terry — a Texas-based husband, father and grandfather — sought to create every day in his former career as a user experience (UX) designer.
When creating web applications and websites, Terry aimed to give the user a straightforward and stress-free experience. And that’s exactly what GoodRx has done for him.

Terry had been going to his local pharmacy for years, and he didn't realize that not all medications were priced equally across the board in every pharmacy.
When he discovered GoodRx, he began using its convenient prescription comparison and locator tool to help him save on his medication costs. Even as a Medicare Part D enrollee, Terry has found that GoodRx is often the best option for him and his family to save money on their prescriptions. They use GoodRx to access low-cost medications at convenient locations — all on an easy-to-use, user-friendly platform.

GoodRx Is ‘The Real Deal’
Terry first discovered GoodRx at his local pharmacy. Up until that point, it never occurred to him that he could get different prices for his medication elsewhere.
“I've been using the same pharmacy for years, satisfied with it, but I didn't know that I could go to another business across the street from it and get it at half price,” says Terry. “I had brand loyalty with the store and the pharmacy, but … I'm going to go where the prices are better, and it was GoodRx that gave me that information.”
Working in design is all about solving problems and helping others understand challenging topics, so Terry wanted to make sure he did his research before using GoodRx and recommending it to his loved ones.
“I wanted to understand the space, [so I] started reading, exploring, and that's when it was just GoodRx for me,” he explains. “[Now I’m] able to get a cheaper price somewhere else, compare the prices, and it was all a matter of reading their material, going online [and] doing the research.”
Big Savings Compared To Medicare Alone
Over the past year, Terry has transitioned from his employer-provided insurance plan to Medicare. Like many people, Terry did not know if he would be able to take advantage of GoodRx while enrolled in a Medicare plan. Luckily, he learned that, as a Medicare enrollee, he can choose when to use GoodRx, or when to use his Medicare coverage, depending on the situation.
In some cases, when a prescription is not covered by a Medicare Part D plan, or the GoodRx price is more affordable than the copay the Part D plan offers, it can make sense for Medicare enrollees like Terry to use GoodRx to pay for their medications instead.
“I looked at GoodRx and was able to get [my medicine] cheaper,” Terry says. “In fact, it also told me what the generic brand was. I talked to my doctor about it and was able to get the generic brand at a substantially lower cost than it would have been by using the Medicare prescription plan.”
Terry loves that he can use either GoodRx or Medicare, depending on which one gets him the better price for the prescription he needs.
“There are times I can use GoodRx and it's cheaper than even going through the prescription plan with Medicare, but it doesn't replace it,” he says. “I can do either/or. One is a plan, the other is just getting that deduction — the reduced price.”
An Easy-To-Use Interface And Great UX
As a UX designer, user experience is very important to Terry. In his work, he strives to make everything easy for the user to understand, as well as to provide an intuitive and functioning experience.
Many Medicare users may be turned off by or skeptical about using an app to access savings. However, the GoodRx app won over Terry and impressed him as a designer.
“In my business, we say that navigation is the key to usability, and [the] GoodRx app has excellent navigation,” he says. “[Even] for those that don't use apps, the interface on [GoodRx], the user experience, the usability of the app is very … tappable, it's searchable, it's consistent. It takes me where I need to go.”
Not only is the application easy to use, but it also has a handful of helpful features that help its users get the best experience possible. In order to get access to instant savings on their medication, users such as Terry simply need to log into the GoodRx app, input their medication and location, and they'll have access to savings instantly.
“I’m able to look up and see my cost savings of what I've paid so far, and what I've saved,” explains Terry. “Then I can also look at other pharmacies in my area to see what the prices are now and, if I need to, I can switch one prescription, [and] move it over to another pharmacy in the area.”
